Massimo Sasso has been bestowed the Brian Piccolo Award for 2020 by the Hillsborough Chapter of UNICO National. The award is given to high school student athletes of Italian-American heritage who exhibit the qualities modeled by Brian Piccolo in his life and career (courage, friendship, loyalty, teamwork, dedication, sense of humor, and anti-bias.
Massimo has played Hillsborough High School Soccer all four years as a defender and goalie, with 2020 earning him the Mayoral Proclamation for Outstanding Season.
Besides the high school team, he has played Recreation Soccer and Basketball, and CYO Basketball. His sportsmanship and maturity carried over to his volunteer choices with Bridgeway Nursing Home, Gigi’s Playhouse, Red Bulls’ K-2 Soccer Team training, and th Special Olympics. Massimo has been a volunteer at the Township Food Pantry creating a fundraiser, as well as collecting, sorting, and distributing items. He has done all this while still maintaining an impressive Grade Point Average.
The UNICO Hillsborough Chapter congratulates Massimo as he pursues his career as a teacher and continues coaching soccer and basketball. Along with the Piccolo Award Plaque, Massimo will be given a $1000 scholarship for his continued education.
